Drummer Kaguya

Drummer Kaguya is one of the three bosses of the Moonlight Village.

The Realm Eye says:
One of the original students of the danmaku dance, Kaguya is a powerful spirit whose drums control the weather and are capable of summoning bolts of lightning.
Her fierce cries have led some to believe that she is born of the thunder itself.
She performs every night at her village’s festival in order to appease the spirits that gather there.

Behavior

Kaguya, along with Sage Genji and Dancer Miko, will be found in the main area of the Moonlight Village. Once approached, she and the other dancers will provide some dialogue before teleporting all players to the arena and starting the fight.
“A great beat sounded throughout the ages…”
“Witness our form! Witness our grace! Witness the beauty, of the Moonlight Dance!”

The three dancers will attack one at a time in a random order. Depending on when Kaguya attacks, her behavior will be different.

  • If she is the first dancer, she will perform one Damage phase and one Danmaku phase.
  • If she is the second dancer, she will perform two sets of Damage and Danmaku phases for a total of 4 phases. Any dancers that previously attacked will start to support her.
  • If she is the last dancer, she will perform two sets of Damage and Danmaku phases, followed by her Last Word at the very end of the fight.
  • On Leisurely mode, she will only use one Damage phase and one Danmaku Phase regardless of her position, followed by the Last Word if she was the last dancer.

See the Boss Phases section of the main page for more info on the dancers’ battle structure.

Damage Phases

During these phases, Kaguya will be Gold Four Pointed Star Armor Broken and must be damaged to accelerate the phase. In each one, Kaguya will use one standard attack at random, coupled with a random secondary attack to supplement it. She will never use the same attack more than once.

If a dancer was defeated before Kaguya, they will spin around the arena during these attacks, firing bullets to aid Kaguya.

Sonic Projection

Kaguya seals off the top and bottom of the arena with lightning wheels and starts rotating around the middle, firing rings of sonic waves. Meanwhile, arrowheads of lightning bullets will periodically converge on her from the edges of the arena in sets of 6,

Unfaltering Drums

Kaguya circles in place, releasing 4-way pairs of sonic waves. At the same time, three drums will rotate around the edges of the arena, firing shotguns of lightning shots outwards and pairs of shots inwards.

Thunder Dome

Kaguya wanders in place and fires yellow arrowheads in three directions. Spinning rings of lightning wheels will converge on her position, each with two moving gaps to dodge through.

Lightning Rod

Kaguya traps players in a ring of electric wheels and starts shooting yellow arrowheads in 3 directions. Sets of 3 lightning bolts will periodically converge on the center of the arena, and 3 sets of V-shaped bursts of lightning shots will also periodically fire from the edges of the arena.

Static Circuit

Kaguya divides the arena into half with a horizontal line of electricity along with two more at the top/bottom of the arena, all of which will split apart after traveling some distance, forming a figure 8 shape. A randomized barrage of lightning bullets will also be saturating the arena, moving perpendicular to the electric streams. Kaguya will be walking back and forth in the middle of the arena, and does not attack herself.

Secondary Attacks
  • Rings of lightning that converge on the center of the arena, telegraphed by warning symbols.
  • Lines of sequential AoE lightning bolts that sweep across the arena.
  • Periodic telegraphed drums that spawn around the arena before exploding into a plus shape of sound waves.
  • Periodic telegraphed drums that spawn around the arena before exploding into a double ring of sound waves and lightning shots.
  • Slow yellow wheels that fire from the edges of the arena, leaving behind trails of stationary shots.

Danmaku Phases

During these phases, players cannot harm Kaguya and must stay close to the Lantern in the arena to speed up the phase. Players will be inflicted with Pet Stasis Pet Stasis and In Combat for the duration of the phase, but will also be given 3 seconds of Red Cross Healing and Blue Cross Energized at the end of it.

Chorus of Thundering Drums

Kaguya spins in place and fires 4-way pairs of white waves as three drums rotate around her, firing rings of smaller yellow waves. Three torrents of electric shots restrict the arena to a triangle; the orientation of the torrents and thus the triangle will periodically change, telegraphed by warning signs pointing at where the new shots will fire at. At the same time, lightning bullets will be fired from outside the arena, forming a triangular pattern matching the current arena shape.

The Lantern circles clockwise around the arena.

As the Sky Falls

Kaguya seals off the bottom half of the arena with lightning orbs and starts firing walls of shots that travel down the length of the arena, each with one or more gaps to dodge through. Additional lightning orbs will be firing from the sides of the arena, and “walls” of delayed lightning strikes will periodically sweep horizontally across the arena, reversing direction each time.

The Lantern moves back and forth at the top of the arena.

Rhythm of an Empty Heart

Kaguya surrounds the arena with a ring of lightning and moves between the cardinal points of the ring, firing rings of turning shots every time she stops. Streams of lightning bolts periodically sweep across the arena in a grid pattern, while horizontal and vertical lines of sequential AoE lightning strikes also periodically snake across the arena.

The Lantern rotates clockwise close to the center of the room.

Last Word ~ Light within the Storm

Kaguya’s final attack progresses through four stages as it nears completion. For the duration of the Last Word, all players will be inflicted with Pet Stasis Pet Stasis, Silenced Silenced, Skull Sick, Empty Potion Bottle Drought, and In Combat.

  • Gentle: Kaguya surrounds the arena with a ring of lightning orbs and summons three drums that rotate around the center of the room; she will move between them, stopping briefly at each drum to play it. Every time Kaguya plays the drums, telegraphed lightning strikes the arena in one of several patterns, each strike creating four lightning bolts that fly in an X or cross pattern. The arena border will also periodically shoot spreads of lightning orbs into the arena.
  • Moderate: Every time Kaguya stops at a drum, she will release two rings of wave bullets.
  • Intense: Three rings of wave bullets are fired instead of two.
  • Climax: The fire rate of all attacks significantly increases.

The Lantern rotates counter-clockwise around the arena and slows down significantly whenever Kaguya is playing the drums.

Battle Dialogue

First Dancer
  • (start) “Let me start! I’ll show these guests a thundering open act!”
  • (first Danmaku) “The spirits are dancing along with you!”
“The storm clouds deepen…through my danmaku dance, I will invoke the power of thunder!”
  • (end) “The storm has settled…but this is just the beginning! My partners will show you their might!”
Second Dancer
  • (start, generic) “That was a thrilling performance. I hope to be able to match the pace!”
  • (start, Miko defeated) “How did you find Miko’s performance? I shall get you up and moving with mine!”
“If you were moved by Miko’s dance then you’ll love mine!”
  • (start, Genji defeated) “Did you enjoy Genji’s performance? I shall get you up and moving with mine!”
“If you were moved by Genji’s dance then you will be in awe of mine!
  • (last Danmaku) “As my part in the festival draws to a close, my wish is to have invigorated your spirit!”
  • (end) “You’re full of surprises! The final act is now upon us.”
Third Dancer
  • (start) “Watching the others dance before me has revitalized my soul. I will give it my all for the spirits here tonight!”
  • (last Danmaku) “You have done well to reach this point, now show me what you’ve got!”
  • (Last Word) “My final dance will now bring this festival to a close!”
“By the grace of our patron goddess…”
“Let us begin the final dance!”

Defeat and Aftermath

“We hope to perform for you again in the next festival!”

Once the three dancers are all defeated, all the gathered spirits will converge into a loot bag, and the dancers will take their leave. If Kaguya was the final dancer and Leisurely mode was not activated, she will grant players a Mana Exaltation upon defeat.

After the battle, Kaguya can be found in the main path of the dungeon, where she can be talked to.
“Huff…huff…nothing like working up a sweat from a performance! I need to catch my breath, but we can talk.”
“We don’t usually get spirits as feisty as you lot, so how ‘bout a chat?

Players can also prompt additional dialogue if they ask Kaguya about specific topics.
