There are several ways to talk with others in RotMG.
This is the simplest way to talk to others. Simply press Enter, type in your message, and press Enter again. This type of message can be seen by anyone who is around you.
When you want to talk with someone privately, this is the way to go. Type in /tell <player name> <text> or /t <player name> <text> or /w <player name> <text> in order to privately message that person. You can also press the reply button (Tab is the default) to automatically and quickly reply to the last person you sent a tell to.
If you are in a guild, you have the additional option of talking with your guild as a whole, by typing (without pressing enter) G, or (after pressing enter) /guild <text> or /g <text>. This lets you talk privately, but with more than a single person.
Emotes can only be used outside of dungeons and the realm. Emotes are only displayed above the character and not entered in chat, they are also visible to all players. Press H to access the emote wheel, and then press a number hotkey 1-4 or select one of the emotes with your mouse to use it. The emote wheel can be edited in the Wardrobe inside of the player vault. You can also select a “Victory Emote” which will be automatically displayed when the main boss of a dungeon dies.
