For the Killer Bee Nests that spawn during the Killer Bee Queen fight, see this page.
The Killer Bee Nest is an Event Boss that drops an entrance to The Nest.
The Realm Eye says: |
---|
The strongest warriors from each of the Killer Bee Queen’s three distinct races of children were chosen as protectors of the colony known as the B-Team. Knighted by the queen herself, each Beehemoth is tasked with overseeing the development and spread of nest construction by thousands of worker bees. Their greatest calling is to protect the nerve center of the colony from invaders, ensuring the queen’s safety in her own massive nest. |

The Killer Bee Nest is found in a very large setpiece resembling the interior of The Nest, complete with pools of Killer Honey. Much like the Lost Sentry, it has a marker on the minimap. It is surrounded by 7 Nest Colonies that heal it at a rapid pace while spawning groups of Red, Blue, or Yellow Nest Colony Guardians.
The Boss itself is stationary and fires oscillating streams of multicolored orbs. It also fires various colored bombs all around it that inflict a number of status effects.
Once it takes enough damage, it will call in all nearby Colony Guardians to orbit it tightly to defend itself, as well as changing the shot patterns of the Nest Colonies. Its shot types also change to dense 4-directional spreads of various shots, firing a single color per burst.
Once it takes more damage, the Nest spawns in 3 Beehemoths, which chase players down and become the new targets. The Nest itself is invulnerable during this time, firing radial bursts of Red, Yellow, or Blue Balls and lobbing rings of colored bombs to support the Beehemoths (if a Beehemoth is defeated, it stops firing that shot/bomb color).
While each Beehemoth has its own behavior patterns, they all have behaviors in common:
Once the last Beehemoth is dead, the Nest’s corpse generates a portal to The Nest.

Nest Colony
Spawns:
Red Beehemoth
Blue Beehemoth
Yellow Beehemoth
The Killer Bee Nest does not drop loot; the Beehemoths shown above will drop loot.
It is heavily advised to deal with the Nest Colonies surrounding the boss beforehand. Not only do they heal the Nest for large amounts of HP, but they constantly summon minions and launch long-ranged bombs which can be detrimental while the Beehemoths are active.
It may be helpful to bring the Nest’s HP down to push it into its second phase to make clearing the Colonies easier, as they will then no longer spawn any Colony Guardians, making them significantly easier to take down.
The actual boss itself is not that much of a challenge. While its shots can inflict large amounts of damage and various status effects, its attacks are heavily patterned and are not that hard to avoid. Do mind the Killer Honey spread throughout the arena though.
The harder part of the battle begins when the Nest summons the 3 Beehemoths. Each Beehemoth is very powerful, extremely fast, and relatively bulky, so handling 3 at once can be too much to handle. It is possible to isolate the Beehemoths and take them down one by one, but it is important to avoid the middle of the arena, as the Nest will be firing radial bursts of dangerous shots. Take special caution when the Beehemoths are at low health: their enraged phase is the deadliest.
The hardest part comes when the last surviving Beehmoth consumes the Killer Bee Nest. Even though there is only one of them now, the surviving Beehemoth will be restored to full health and will now utilize much more complex and deadly attack patterns, all while aggressively lunging at players. Keep your distance from it if you don’t want to be shotgunned and focus it from range, and you should be able to beat the Killer Bee Nest and get to enter The Nest.
Note: don’t rush in to get soulbound damage on the Nest. The Nest drops absolutely nothing; the Beehemoths are the ones that actually drop loot.
There have been several occurences of this event boss “breaking” in the first weeks of it’s initial release. On occasion, once the 2nd Beehemoth is killed, the final Beehemoth will return to the Killer Bee Nest and circle around it, and both the Beehemoth and the Nest will have invulnerability, resulting in the quest being unable to be completed and appearing as the quest for the realm.
It is still unknown as to exactly what causes this glitch, but it has been suspected to be a result of the second Beehemoth chasing players too far away and despawning, making it so that the event can no longer progress.
As of Hotfix X.15.1.0 (July 2017), this bug no longer occurs.
